WHAT STYLE OF HOME IS FOR YOU?

Style preference involves personal taste, family needs, and budget. Following are some of the most basic types of home styles. There are additional styles in today's market.

RANCH - Typically one-story homes with bedrooms separated from the living quarters and kitchen. Ranches will have basements, crawl spaces, or are built on slab foundations. There are no steps on the first floor.

TWO STORY - This style of home offers a separation of space. The main living space is on the first floor with living room, dining room, kitchen, and family room. Stairs are involved to the upstairs bedrooms.Most two-story homes have basements.

CAPE COD - This is a one and a half story home. Steep rooflines make slanted ceilings in upstairs rooms accented by dormer windows. Sometimes the master bedroom is on the first floor, with the additional bedroom upstairs.

SPLIT LEVEL - This home style is designed for a compact use of space. A "tri level" has 3 levels of living space, and a "quad level" has 4 levels including a basement to finish off the fourth level. The first floor consists of the kitchen, living room, dining room and entry. There are short flights of stairs going up to the bedrooms and then down to the family room.

VICTORIAN - Older homes accented by ornamental designs, front porches, peaks, turrets and gingerbread trim.

CONTEMPORARY - This home style features untraditional use of space with high volume ceilings, dramatic shapes, and unusual use of materials.

TOWNHOUSE - Attached homes of similar style that share common walls and common space. They usually offer two to three floors of living space. They sometimes features neighborhood parks and shared activities. They have outside, private entries. and small yards. There is usually an association that maintains the roads, driveways, and grounds.

CONDOMINIUM - These are clustered units varying from low -rise, high-rise, or even detached homes. In most cases, there is an interior access to your front door. An association maintains the common and shared areas.
