SELLERS: ARE YOU READY FOR THE HOME INSPECTION? Prepared By Gloria Brda Prepare your home for the inspection by following these suggestions: - Secure all of your pets in either a clearly marked room in your home, in the yard, or removed from your home completely during the inspection time.
- Turn on the lights in your home before arrival.
- Label your electrical panel of the box.
- Ensure that all water, gas, oil, and electrical systems are working and can be tested.
- If it is during the winter months and the utilities have been shut off, or the home has been winterized for plumbing, please have all systems working.
- Leave clearly labeled keys for any access panels, garages, sheds, or other areas that are normally locked.
- Move stored items to insure reasonable access to the electrical panel, furnace, hot water heater, attic and crawlspace.
- Empty your tubs, showers, and sinks.
- Turn off all computer systems.
- Label any unusual switches such as special motion detectors.
The home inspector will be accompanied by the potential buyers as well as the selling agent. The approximate time frame to complete the inspection will be anywhere from 2-4 hours, depending on the square footage of the home and number of amenities. [ View the Anatomy of a Home ]
